You can experience farming such as horse doll making by straws as Kikuchi's custom. There are bamboo lantern making and Taketonbo: small wooden Japanese toy that flies. Also, there is Ikinaridango making that is the Kumamot's specialty sweets, and the menu is flexible depend on the seasons. Also you can experience the horse riding at the site. The son in family will be the coach since he participated the national athletic meet. The food served in the host has a good reputation since the mostly use super organic vegetables that is harvested from the farm.

The house is located in countryside by the Kikuchi river with the views of relaxing rural landscape. There is a traditional warehouse after the tasteful entrance gate. When you open the doors of the warehouse, you can see the interior of Japanese modern living room that you can't imagine from the outside look. The owner Ms.Kudo has decided to renovate the warehouse as a guesthouse. There are living room, and bed room on 1st floor with the display of dishes and pictures. There are folklore tools on 2nd floor. You cannot miss these museum like or art gallery room upon your stay.

There will be boasting dishes on the table since the owner runs a restaurant. It is not only fresh vegetables but also wild boar or deer if you are lucky when their friends hunted. The owner Chikako said "I'd like to welcome with the seasonal local food". There are hands on learning menu such as chopping woods and how to wear Japanese Kimono, and also a bag making by using Kimono's belt. Chikako does Japanese tea making called Sado as well so you can experience if you like. This area is famous for fireflies in early summer, and it's breathtaking moment to see the lights by the river.

The house was built in mountainous region in 1917, and it's 100 years old: the traditional Japanese house. The owner Keiko is a good chef so her home cooking has a good reputation of her dishes with local ingredients. The owner guides you to Ryumon lake dam, which has stunning views and history of the village sank in the lake due to the dam contraction. As a footpath walk, you can see Sozugawa spring and Japanese garden of the temple. Also you can have an experience of meeting rice farmer and burdock harvesting.

Yokote-an
It was a stable building and renovated to the guesthouse. And it is named "Yokote-an naaya". This is not only for a guesthouse but also a place for a play and music event, and a children stay for mountainous area is held regularly. Local ingredients are used for dishes. Especially they go to picking such as chestnuts or bamboos with a guest, and serve them in dishes so that you can feel the nature. Since they used to be a teacher, the love children. Owner said "We have hands on learning menu that children like". And their goal is children friendly guesthouse. There are somen noodle slider called Somennagashi in summer, river, mountain climbing and fish catching by hands. Autumn is chestnuts picking. Winter is Mochi pounding.

The house is located in Kikuchi city and it is close to Daikanbo that is known as Mt.Aso's panorama view point. You can enjoy Kikuchi river which is 5 minutes drive. Especially in the summer time, you can swim in the river. You can enjoy Kikuchi's onsen near by called Iwakura. If you want more choices, you can drive down to Kikuchi city.

It is located in Aso-Kuju national park, and a good combination to see the gorge and Aso since it is on the way to Aso's view point called "Daikanbo" in 23 min drive distance. You can have a walk along the riverside for 30 min to 60 min. The gorge is the beauty of water side while Aso is the beauty of mountain side. I recommend to head into Daikanbo as the tour combination of stunning nature .
